Yesterday I went to the Longleat light festival and ever since my cousin mentioned how good it was last year I have been counting down the days in order to cure me of my curiosity.
Longleat is located in Wiltshire, England and it is typically a Safari park, the first drive-through safari that opened up outside of Africa. But from the 11th of November to the 2nd of January, of every year, they also transform the front lawn into a light show. Every year the festival creates a different theme from Chinese New year to underwater animals and for the 50th anniversary, this year, Beatrix potter was nominated. All of Beatrix’s most famous characters were there from Mr McGregor and Peter Rabbit, to Jemima Puddle-duck.
When you walk down the grand entrance you are overwhelmed with festive excitement, although the predominant theme isn’t Christmas the energy makes you feel giddy. I cant imagine how much work went into this display but they looked flawless and the colours are so vivid. Don’t forget to look out for some of the Safari’s favourite animals including lions, gorillas, giraffes that reach sky high and many more!
The show is the perfect place to take children, not only because of the Beatrix potter theme, but also because the children were in awe as they marvelled at these massive creations, not to mention the adults were too.
The Longleat Festival tickets also include a chance to visit the animals in their enclosures and if you enjoy a splash of history you can take a look around the festival manor house, which has been decked out for Christmas. You can find tickets here, at Longleat’s website https://www.longleat.co.uk/. I would recommend the show to anyone in the area but make sure you dress warmly and prepare for a chance of rain.
